Flat tires are one of the most common breakdown issues in the USA, with over 220 million flat tires every year. When you get a flat tire, it can be a stressful situation, especially when you aren’t prepared, or it happens in a dangerous location. However, don’t panic; we’re here to help!

When you realize you have a flat tire, the first thing to do is to check your surroundings and pull over into a safe position, so you can assess the situation. Never continue driving on a flat tire as this can cause more damage to the tire and the wheel itself.

If you are on the highway, ensure that you activate your hazard lights to alert other drivers to your issue and safely pull over to the shoulder. Do not attempt to change the tire yourself, even if you are an expert and have done this before, as you will put yourself at risk from oncoming traffic. Call for an emergency roadside assistant to come and assist, then wait on the other side of the safety barrier for their arrival. They are trained for this.

If you are on a suburban road, be sure to put your hazards on and pull over to a safe position on the side of the road or into a pull-off or quiet side road. Once you are in a safe road position, be sure to put the car in park, and you can check the severity of the flat tire. If you are able to change the tire by yourself, you can do so if you have enough space around your car to not put yourself in danger. You should have a spare tire and possibly and car jack in your car to help you do so. If you aren’t confident in changing a tire by yourself, or the damage is worse than you initially thought, call for an emergency roadside assistance service, so they can come and help.

But, remember… do not panic! Emergency roadside assistants are trained to assist you with any car issues you may be experiencing. Here at JM Roadside Rescue, we’re just a call away, 24/7, and we’ll arrive within 30 minutes. We are ready to help!
